Introduction
I enjoy reading as well as listening to a lot of audio books. If you are looking for a great source of audio books try Audible.com at www.audible.com.
The following are a brief list of books recently read and links to where you may find them.
Science Non-Fiction
- Linked: How Everything is Connected to Everything Else and What It Means by Albert-Laszlo Barabasi - A great book on degrees of connectiveness.
- The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality by Brian Greene - A heavy read but one that certainly gets you thinking.
- The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene - more of the above
- The Hidden Reality by Brian Greene - Continuing from above but more on paralle universes (assuming the concept doesn’t offend you)
- Time Travel in Einstein’s Universe - The Physical Possibilities of Travel Through Time by J. Richard Gott - The question of how do we take all the theories and build the notion of time travel.
- Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You - A Guide to the Universe by Marcus Chow - A lighter view on a difficult topic.
Business Non-Fiction
- The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable by Patrick M. Lencioni - A good leadership book around getting a team to work well together.
- The Power of Story: Change Your Story, Change Your Destiny in Business and in Life by Jim Loehr - a powerful book about how to put things into context using a story and the power that comes from that.
- Management Tips: from Harvard Business Review - This is such a small and easy read for any new or refreshing manager/leader.
- Influencer: The Power to Change Anything by Patterson et al - A must have in anyone’s library on how to best influence. Influencing is far better than being given authority.
- Your Brain at Work: Strategies for Overcoming Distraction, Regaining Focus, and Working Smarter All Day Long by David Rock - what can I say but hack your brain and work smarter not harder.
Science Fiction
- Daemon and its sequel Freedom (TM) by Daniel Suarez - If you want to see what can be done with technology such as Augmented Reality and how it could be used, read this - these are my two favourite books.
- Influx by Daniel Suarez - yes you start to read all his works as he does such a great job on future technology, so while you are there you may as well also read Kill Decision and see where drones could go.
- Old Man’s War by John Scalzi - great series of books (6). Interplanetary war with soldiers that are old men approaching death who are transferred into genetically engineered bodies.
- Lock In: A Novel of the Near Future by John Scalzi - what can happen when you use other bodies when your own locks you in.
Other Books
- The Power of Art by Simon Schama - This book is based on the television series that is also available on DVD - Simon Schama's Power of Art. A fabulous TV series that is well worth the money and time to watch.
